The singer/songwriter Kevin Ayres who was at the forefront of Psychedelic music with the 1960's band Soft Machine and who later had a critically acclaimed, if not always commercially successful solo career has been found dead at his home in France.
Soft Machine were contemporaries of psychedelic era Pink Floyd and Ayres was once called, along with the late Syd Barrett, the most important people in British pop music.
