Jason Molina , the 39-year-old singer-songwriter behind the groups Songs: Ohia and Magnolia Electric Co. , has died following a long battle with alcoholism.

"We are deeply saddened to announce that Jason Andrew Molina passed away in his home in Indianapolis this past Saturday, March 16th of natural causes at age 39," reads a statement from his record company, Secretly Canadian.

"Between those two bands he released over a dozen critically-acclaimed albums and—starting in 1997—he toured the world every year until he had to stop in 2009 to deal with severe alcoholism. Jason was incredibly humbled by his fans' support through the years and said that the two most important words he could ever say are "Thank you."

Molina's efforts to complete rehab had been complicated by a lack of medical insurance, which had prompted the label to reach out to fans to help pay his bills in 2011.

Molina posted a letter to fans in 2012, acknowledging their support.

"Treatment is good, getting to deal with a lot of things that even the music didn't want to. I have not given up because you, my friends have not given up on me. I do still need your support however that takes shape, good vibes are worth more than you might think."

The actor Frank Thornton, a stalwart of British comedy has died aged 92, peacefully in his sleep.

Best remembered for playing Captain Peacock, he was in "Are You Being Served?" from the pilot show in 1972 to the final episode in 1985, and reprised the character in "Grace and Favour" ("Are You Being Served Again" in America) in 1992.

Along the way he appeared in "Carry On Screaming", "Last of The Summer Wine" and the film "Gosford Park" to name a few.
