Guitarist and songwriter John Stewart passed away on Sat. Jan. 19, 2008, due to complications from a stroke.
He is best remembered as a member of the folk music group "The Kingston Trio". A native of San Diego, California, he replaced musician Dave Guard when he left in 1961, staying with the Kingston Trio until they disbanded in 1967. He went on to write the hit song, "Daydream Believer" for "The Monkees "that same year, and in 1968 he traveled with Senator Robert F. Kennedy during Kennedy's presidential campaign run. He also had a successful solo career, and released the 1979 single, "Gold", and several chart-topping albums, including: "California Bloodlines" (1969), "Airdream Believer" (1995), "Bandera" (1998), "Wires From The Bunker" (2000), "Havana" (2003), and "The Day The River Sang" (2006). He continued to record and perform up until his death.
