Legendary psychic Sylvia Browne, a mainstay of television and radio and the author of scores of best-selling books, died early Wednesday in a California hospital, according to her official website. She was 77.
Browne made frequent appearances on programs like "Larry King Live" and "The Montel Williams Show" for nearly a quarter-century, earning legions of fans with a penchant for the paranormal.
"For many years she shared her gift with friends and family, gaining a reputation for accuracy with her trademark down-to-earth approach and sense of humor," according to a message on her website.
A native of Kansas City, Mo., Browne said her "spiritual psychic ability" first surfaced when she was three, the message said.
Over the course of her career, Browne published more than 50 books — 22 of which made the New York Times Bestsellers List.
Browne made headlines in May after Cleveland kidnapping victim Amanda Berry was rescued — nearly nine years after the psychic told Berry's mother that her daughter was dead.
"She's not alive, honey," Browne told Berry's mother Louwanna Miller on "The Montel Williams Show" in 2004 — two years before Miller died.
Berry, of course, was discovered alive this May after making a daring break from the house where her tormentor, the late Ariel Castro, kept her and two other women imprisoned for nearly a decade.
Browne is survived by here husband, Michael Ulery; sons, Christopher and Paul Dufresne; three grandchildren, Angelia, Jeffrey and William; and her sister, Sharon Bortolussi.
A private memorial service will be scheduled, according to her website.
