Former Korn Touring Guitarist Shane
Gibson Dies
Sad news to report from the Korn
family. Shane Gibson, who performed
as a live member for Korn from
2007-2010, has passed away at the age
of 35 from complications due to a
blood clotting disorder.
After the departure of Brian 'Head'
Welch, Korn chose not to replace
their longtime guitarist, instead
opting to hire live performers to
fill Welch's sonic space. After
guitarists Rob Patterson and
Sevendust's Clint Lowrey finished
their respective stints with Korn,
Shane Gibson was recruited in 2007
and stuck with Korn until leaving in
2010. Gibson even took over lead
guitar for Korn when Munky was absent
from the band for a brief time in
2008.
Gibson went on to play with
SchwarZenatoR, stOrk and others, also
contributing to Korn singer Jonathan
Davis' solo album 'Jonathan David and
the SFA.'
Since Gibson's death, the guitarist's
personal Facebook page has been
flooded by heartfelt condolences. As
of this posting, Facebook memorials
have been piling up on the late
Gibson's Facebook feed, almost
without one full minute passing
before a new tribute is added.
Korn have yet to comment on Gibson's
death, but stOrk have just posted a
memorial for their friend and
bandmate via Facebook:
It is with deepest sadness and
regret that we must confirm that
stOrk founding member and lead
guitarist Shane Paul Gibson passed
away at 5:45 AM on April 15th, 2014
in the UAB Hospital in Birmingham,
Alabama as a result of complications
from a blood clotting disorder. He
was 35 years old. He was one of the
best guitar players the world has
ever known and his virtuosity was
matched only by his wit and
generosity of spirit. He will be
missed beyond measure.
Our thoughts and prayers go out
to his family and all those who loved
him as much as we did.
