Ryan Freel, a utility player whose major league baseball career was cut short after eight seasons by a series of head and other injuries, was found dead on Saturday in Jacksonville, Fla. He was 36.
He died of what appeared to be a self-inflicted shotgun wound, Shannon Hartley, a spokesman for the Jacksonville Sheriffâs Office, wrote in an e-mail on Sunday.
