From JR:
I had the exquisite pleasure of meeting and chatting for some time with Ms. Garrett some 15 or so years ago. She was an absolute treasure -- and there was nothing (and no one) she wanted more to talk about than her late (and most talented) husband, Larry Parks. I had no doubt from our conversation there was nothing for which she was waiting more than to be with Larry again, whether it was that day, or years from then.
Our younger members may remember her best as the landlady on "Laverne and Shirley"; my generation should remember her as the Irene Lorenzo on "All in the Family"; besides the latter, my favorite Betty Garrett role was in "On the Town," in which she had the chance to show off her dynamite dancing talent.
R.I.P., Ms. Garrett, and thank you for for all the unforgettable entertainment -- and for our unforgettable chat all those years ago.
Betty Garrett was a truly gentle, charming lady, full of grace.
