LONDON (AP) — British actress Kate O'Mara, best known for her role in the 1980s soap opera "Dynasty," died Sunday at the age of 74, her agent said.

Phil Belfield said O'Mara died in a nursing home in southern England after a short illness.

The actress, who began her television career in the 1960s, became a household name for playing Cassandra "Caress" Morrell, sister to Joan Collins' Alexis Colby, in "Dynasty."

In Britain she is often remembered for her role in "Triangle" — a soap opera set aboard a North Sea ferry that is often cited as the worst piece of British television.

She also appeared in the original run of British series "Doctor Who" and BBC drama "Howards' Way." In the 1990s she starred in the comedy show "Absolutely Fabulous" with Joanna Lumley.

More recently she appeared in a 2012 stage adaptation of Agatha Christie's "Death on the Nile."

She is survived by her sister, actress Belinda Carroll.

[DeadCelebrityAlert] GWAR frontman Brockie found dead in Virginia home

GWAR frontman Brockie found dead in Virginia home

MICHAEL FELBERBAUM, AP
Mon Mar 24, 3:19 PM UTC

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Dave Brockie, who as "Oderus Urungus" fronted the alien-costumed heavy metal band GWAR during graphic and fake-blood-soaked stage shows for more than three decades, has died. He was 50.

Officers were called to Brockie's home Sunday evening and found the singer dead inside the home, Richmond police spokeswoman Dionne Waugh said Monday. Detectives don't suspect foul play at this time and the medical examiner's office will determine cause of death, Waugh said.

The band founded in 1984 is known for its comically grotesque costumes, stage antics and vulgar lyrics. GWAR was nominated for a Grammy Award for best long-form music video in 1993 for "Phallus in Wonderland" but lost to "Diva" by Annie Lennox. It also was nominated for best metal performance for "S.F.W." in 1996 but lost to "Happiness In Slavery" by Nine Inch Nails.

Randy Blythe, the lead vocalist for Virginia-based metal band Lamb of God, fondly recalled Brockie's approach to humor in a post on the band's Facebook page: "Right now, if I were to truly honor Dave in the way HE would do it if it were ME that had died, I would make a completely tasteless joke about his death. But I do not have the stomach for that — Dave would, but not me. He never put much stock in 'limits.'"

GWAR released its latest album, "Battle Maximus," in September 2013 and recently toured Australia and Japan. Over the summer, the band held its 4th annual GWAR-B-Q at a small water park in Richmond and released its own canned craft beer for the occasion made by Cigar City Brewing in Tampa, Fla. The band had announced plans for its 5th annual event last week.

Brockie remained a constant in the band that has had a revolving door of members, including lead guitarist Cory Smoot, who was found dead on the band's tour bus in North Dakota in 2011. He was 34.

The state medical examiner said Smoot, who had performed since 2002 under the name "Flattus Maximus," died of "coronary artery thrombosis brought about by his pre-existing coronary artery disease." But records showed that investigators found on Smoot a $5 bill with a white powder residue, a prescription bottle holding eight Oxycodone-Acetaminophen pills, a lighter and two empty syringes.

Mon Mar 17, 8:11 PM UTC

NEW YORK (AP) — L'Wren Scott, a fashion designer and celebrity stylist who was Mick Jagger's girlfriend, was found dead in Manhattan on Monday in what was being investigated as an apparent suicide.

Scott's assistant found her hanging at 10 a.m. Monday; no note was found and there was no sign of foul play, police said.

Her spokesperson requested privacy for her family and friends.

Mick Jagger's representative said the singer was "completely shocked and devastated by the news." The pair had been dating since 2001.

Scott, who was adopted by Mormon parents and raised in Roy, Utah, had her own fashion label popular with celebrities. She was a fixture on Jagger's arm and, at around 6-foot-3, towered over her famous boyfriend.

She founded her high-end label in 2006 and recently created a more affordable line of clothes with Banana Republic.

On the red carpet, she has dressed stars like Nicole Kidman, Oprah Winfrey, Sarah Jessica Parker and Angelina Jolie.

"This is a horrible and tragic loss," said Madonna. "I'm so upset. I loved L'Wren's work and she was always so generous with me."

Just last month, Scott canceled her London Fashion Week show, due to reported production delays.

Also last month, makeup artist Bobbi Brown collaborated with Scott on a cosmetics line called the Bobbi Brown x L'Wren Scott Collection.

"I am devastated by the tragic news about L'Wren," Brown said on her website. "She was a visionary designer who I very much enjoyed working with, but she was also smart and kind. My thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to her loved ones during this very sad time."

[DeadCelebrityAlert] Glenn McDuffie, Man Believed to Be the Kissing Sailor in Iconic Photograph, Has Died

Glenn McDuffie, Man Believed to Be the Kissing Sailor in Iconic Photograph, Has Died

Glenn Edward McDuffie, LIFE Magazine, Kissing Sailor

Jordana Ossad, eonline
Mon Mar 17, 1:37 AM UTC

It is highly regarded as one of the most iconic photographs from the 20th century. A sailor bends a nurse over his knee and holds her as they passionately lock lips in Times Square. Life magazine photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt snapped the jubilant duo mid-kiss on Aug. 14, 1945, the day Japan surrendered in WW II.

Glenn McDuffie, the man believed to be the sailor, has died. He was 86, his family confirmed to the Houston Chronicle .

"I heard someone running and stopping right in front of us," McDuffie told the newspaper about the impromptu moment in 2007. He was 18 years old when the photograph was taken.

He continued: "I raised my head up, and it was a photographer. I tried to get my hand out of the way so I wouldn't block her face, and I kissed her just long enough for him to take the picture."

According to the AP , the famous pair never spoke a word, but their brief encounter is one of the most memorable kisses in history.

Several other men came forward as the sailor and Eisenstaedt never confirmed the identity of the man in the photograph. Speculation largely ended six years ago when forensic artist Lois Gibson said the man in the photograph was McDuffie.

Decades after the snapshot, many women would approach McDuffie and ask to recreate the magical smooch. But they usually got to kiss his cheek, Gibson told the newspaper.

[DeadCelebrityAlert] David Brenner, 78

LOS ANGELES (AP) - David Brenner, the gangly, toothy-grinned "Tonight Show" favorite whose brand of observational comedy became a staple for other standup comedians, including Jerry Seinfeld and Paul Reiser, died Saturday. He was 78.

Brenner, who had been fighting cancer, died peacefully at his home in New York City with his family at his side, according to Jeff Abraham, his friend and publicist.

"David Brenner was a huge star when I met him and he took me under his wing. To me, historically, he was the godfather of hip, observational comedy," comedian Richard Lewis said in a statement. "He mentored me from day one. ... His passing leaves a hole in my life that can never be replaced."

Brenner's standup routines became a favorite of "Tonight Show" host Johnny Carson starting in the 1970s.

His 150-plus "Tonight Show" appearances turned the former documentary filmmaker into a hot comedian. Brenner was a regular on other TV talk shows and game shows and starred in four HBO comedy specials. He also briefly hosted his own syndicated talk show in 1987.

He moved with the times, trading routines about the humor of everyday life for jokes about social and political issues. He appeared on MSNBC and Fox News Channel cable programs as well as talk shows.

"David was one of the most respected and liked comedians by his peers. He was always there helping a bright young comedian, whether it be Richard Lewis, Freddie Prinze or Jimmie Walker, and he was still doing it until the very end," Abraham said.

Brenner worked steadily through 2013 doing standup. A four-day gig last December included a New Year's Eve show at a King of Prussia, Pa., casino-resort in which he showcased young comedians.

[DeadCelebrityAlert] Sheila MacRae of 'Honeymooners' fame dies at 92

Sheila MacRae of 'Honeymooners' fame dies at 92

Sat Mar 8, 8:20 AM UTC

ENGLEWOOD, N.J. (AP) — Sheila MacRae starred on the Broadway stage and in films, yet it was her small-screen role as the tolerant and brassy wife of a Brooklyn bus driver for which she is most remembered.

MacRae, best known for playing Alice Kramden to Jackie Gleason's Ralph in the 1960s re-creation of "The Honeymooners," died Thursday. She was 92.

The actress died at the Lillian Booth Actors Home in Englewood, N.J., MacRae's granddaughter, Allison Mullavey, told The Associated Press on Friday.

In the 1950s version of "The Honeymooners," Audrey Meadows starred with Gleason as the lovebirds and sparring partners Ralph and Alice. Sheila MacRae replaced Meadows as Alice in a later version from 1966-70 on "The Jackie Gleason Show." MacRae was the last survivor from the '60s edition of the Gleason show. Jane Kean, who played Trixie Norton, died last fall.

"My mother referred to herself as the last Mrs. Kramden," said her daughter, actress Heather MacRae.

"She had a great life, my mom, she really did. She was quite a broad," Heather MacRae said. "Fascinating, almost like an Autie Mame character."

MacRae, who suffered from dementia but was otherwise in good health, had been hospitalized for a minor surgical procedure. Her death came suddenly Thursday night, apparently the result of old age, said Heather MacRae.

A singer, dancer and actress, MacRae was married to "Oklahoma!" and "Carousel" star Gordon MacRae for 26 years, and they appeared together in 1964 on "The Ed Sullivan Show" when the Beatles were featured.

She had put her career on hold while she devoted herself to MacRae and their four children, Heather MacRae said. After helping her husband with his nightclub act, she decided to join him and her career took off, her daughter said. The couple appeared together in musicals including "Guys and Dolls," with Sheila MacRae taking her performance as Miss Adelaide to Broadway in 1965.

The couple divorced in 1967.

Actress Shirley Jones, in a statement released by MacRae's family, called Sheila MacRae "a great lady" with extraordinary talent who "helped me to be a better mother."

After her divorce from Gordon MacRae, she was married to Ronald Wayne, who produced Gleason's show, her daughter said. They later divorced.

Sheila MacRae played the role of Madelyn Richmond on the soap opera "General Hospital" and was host of "The Sheila MacRae Show."

"She lived a good life and a long life," Mullavey said. "We'll miss her."

A native of London, England, Sheila MacRae emigrated to America with her parents during World War II.

Survivors include children Heather and William "Gar" MacRae, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Daughter Meredith died in 2000 and son Robert in 2010, Heather MacRae said.

Funeral services for her mother were pending, she said.

AP Television Writer Lynn Elber in Los Angeles and Associated Press national writer Hillel Italie in New York contributed to this report.

[DeadCelebrityAlert] Geoff Edwards, 83

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Geoff Edwards, the hip-looking 1970s and '80s host of TV game shows including "Jackpot!" and two incarnations of "Treasure Hunt," died Wednesday, his agent said. He was 83.

Edwards died of complications of pneumonia at St. John's hospital in Santa Monica, agent Fred Westbrook said.

Edwards also worked as a radio DJ and actor, appearing on TV shows including "Petticoat Junction," ''I Dream of Jeannie" and "Diff'rent Strokes."

"Geoff was one of the cleverest, funniest radio and television personalities I've worked with," said fellow game show host Wink Martindale. The two were DJs at pop radio station KMPC in Los Angeles.

Edwards, a native of Westfield, N.J., hosted "The New Treasure Hunt," a revival of a 1950s quiz show, from 1973 to 1977 and hosted "Treasure Hunt" in 1981-82. He also emceed the 1980s game show "Jackpot!" and appeared on other shows including "Starcade."

Westbrook said his longtime client made a splash on TV by shedding the conservative look worn by his peers.

His hair was longer, he never wore a tie, and he favored jeans over suits, Westbrook said. "He was part of the new breed."

Edwards had been in good health, his agent said. In recent years, he wrote about travel on his website and did radio and TV programs on the subject.

He is survived by his wife, Michael, and stepsons Justin and Jason Feffer, Westbrook said. His survivors also include his ex-wife, Suzanne, and their children Todd, Shawn and Chess, as well as nine grandchildren.

Funeral plans were pending, Westbrook said.
